Enjoy free festivities and immerse yourself in amazing Indigenous art, workshops and artists talks, brought together from regional areas and urban centres.

 

A free shuttle will operate between the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair and MAGNT between 10am and 4pm over the weekend.

Winning artists from the 34th Telstra NATSIAA speak with Luke Scholes, Curator of Aboriginal Art.

 

ART WORKSHOP

Wooden island combs with Gab Titui Artists

Saturday 12 August, 11am–3pm

Learn about the cultural traditions of wood carving with Gab Titui artists from the Kaiwalagal nation

(Inner Islands) of the Torres Strait Islands. In this workshop participants will learn how to make wooden island combs.

Emu feather flowers with Baluk artists

Saturday 12 August, 11am–3pm

Join artists from Baluk Arts, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria for an insight into the traditional practice

of using emu feathers for body decoration. In this workshop, participants will make their own emu

feather flowers.​

Silkscreen printing with Tiwi Design

Saturday 12 August, 11am–3pm

Artists from Tiwi Design, Nguiu, Bathurst Island, will demonstrate their screen printing process. Try your hand at producing a print.

Boab nut carving with Waringarri Aboriginal Arts

Sunday 13 August, 11am–3pm

Join Waringarri artists from Miriwoong Country, Kimberley region of Northern Australia, and learn about the iconic boab nut as a food source and its use as a percussion instrument for ceremony. Participants will make their own carving.

Watercolour painting with Ngurratjuta Iltja Ntjarra artists

Join artists from the Central Desert in this hand-on workshop as they share their unique Hermannsburg style watercolour techniques.
