HOME to just 250,000 people, the Northern Territory is quite small in the grand scheme of things.
And so is the daily paper that serves them.
But ask anyone if they’ve heard of the NT News, no matter where they’re from in Australia, and the answer is often yes, accompanied by a bit of a chuckle.
It’s the little paper with the big reputation.
Whether it’s a story about nude bank robbers or talking cats, the cover of the NT News plays by its own rules. About five years ago that NT News editorial team decided to consistently run whatever story they thought would get most people talking that day on page one.
With more than 100 NT News covers on display, you'll notice a winning formula – a great photo, a cheeky headline and, ideally, one of the three Cs: Crocs, Cyclones or Crime. And if they run out of those, there’s always Cursing Cats, Creatures from outer space, Cane toads, Critters or Copulating Couples in public.
This exhibition featured some of the legendary front pages that will disturb and delight.
