Conditions of Entry 

Our principal facility, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) is home to internationally renowned cultural and scientific collections, and exciting research, exhibitions and public programs.

MAGNT also operate the historic Fannie Bay Gaol in Darwin and Megafuana Central in Alice Springs. 

By entering our sites, each person agrees to be bound by the Conditions of Entry.

Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory 

Umbrellas, backpacks and bags larger than 40cm must be stowed in the lockers at the Information Desk.

To protect our collections from pests and damage, food and drink cannot be taken into the galleries. Bottle milk for nursing babies and water bottles are allowed inside the galleries.

Visitors must not touch, or in any other way, interfere with artworks, objects or displays and maintain a safe distance from objects at all times. You are welcome to interact with artworks designated and labelled as interactive.

Photography, videos and films for personal use are permitted unless stated otherwise, and providing they do not disrupt other visitors or MAGNT operations. Flash photography, the use of selfie-sticks, monopods and tripods are not allowed. Photography for commercial use is not allowed.

Only pencils are permitted in our gallery spaces for writing and drawing. Pencils are available from our Information Desk.

Plant material and organic matter, including flowers and feathers, must be stowed in the lockers at the Information Desk before entering the galleries.

For safety and duty of care, children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and actively supervised at all times within the galleries.

For you and your child’s safety, carrying small children on the shoulders is not permitted.

​​

Guide dogs and accredited assistance animals are welcome and proof of accreditation must be presented on arrival. All other animals are prohibited.

Lithium battery powered modes of transport, or recreational equipment, are not allowed inside MAGNT. Mobility aids and small personal devices (mobiles, laptops and digital cameras) are exempt.

​​

Scooters, skateboards, skates and pull along shopping trollies or carts are not permitted inside the galleries and must be stowed before entering.

​​

For your safety footwear must be worn at all times to protect against injury.

​​

Visitors under the influence of alcohol, illicit drugs or other substances will not be permitted entry to MAGNT’s premises.

​​MAGNT is a smoke-free and vape-free site. Smoking or the use of e-cigarettes and vaporisers on MAGNT premises is not permitted.

​​

​​Physical or verbal abuse or aggression towards other visitors, MAGNT staff, contractors or volunteers will not be tolerated.

​​

​​​​Visitors must comply with any direction from staff including cloaking items that are potentially hazardous to the safety or security of artworks, exhibition displays or people; and requests to leave the premises at closing time and in the event of an emergency.

​​

Closed circuit security cameras are installed throughout MAGNT and may record you during your visit. Footage from these cameras is held and disposed of in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 and Surveillance Devices Act 2007 (NT).
